About the placement
This NSW Skills for Net Zero internship is with Novecom. The initiative is proudly funded by the NSW Government and delivered by CSIRO.
This internship is with Novecom, part of the Emergent Group – a collective of businesses delivering engineering, environmental, and technology solutions that help clients transition to a low-carbon future. Emergent Group companies, including Advitech, Novecom, Acubis, and Emergex Manufacturing, work across renewable energy, mining, healthcare, agriculture, and manufacturing sectors to reduce emissions, improve energy efficiency, and minimise climate impact.
Novecom builds Internet of Things (IoT) systems that are used to measure environmental parameters (sunlight, dust, noise and wind speed) and gather ecology data (such as the presence of animals such as bats, by recognising them through the noise they make). This technology is used in renewable energy projects to predict the output of renewable energy generators and minimise the impact of construction or operation on local communities and ecology.
This project aims to assist in the development and testing of sensors used in Novecom's IoT systems. The project may investigate the development of new types of rain sensors, assist with the calibration of dust and wind and noise sensors. The project is likely to involve a mix of hands-on testing and experimentation, together with some development work (3D design/electronics).
