Civil Engineer Internship

About the placement

This NSW Skills for Net Zero internship is on the Central-West Orana Renewable Energy Zone transmission project being delivered by ACEREZ. You will be working for ACCIONA COBRA Joint Venture (ACJV), the design and construct joint venture building the transmission network. The initiative is proudly funded by the NSW Government and delivered by CSIRO.

Working alongside experienced civil engineers, planners, project controls and construction professionals, you will gain hands-on experience across the planning and delivery of civil construction works on a major infrastructure project.

The placement will provide exposure to the planning, coordination and monitoring of civil works, including access roads, earthworks, drainage, foundations, site establishment and other supporting infrastructure required to deliver the transmission network.

You will have the opportunity to contribute to activities such as:

• Supporting the development and maintenance of construction programs and schedules.
• Tracking planned versus actual progress and assisting with progress reporting.
• Assisting with short-term and look-ahead planning for civil construction activities.
• Supporting construction teams with planning, sequencing and coordination of site activities.
• Assisting with measurement and tracking of quantities, productivity and installed works.
• Supporting the coordination of civil works with engineering, construction, procurement and subcontractor teams.
• Assisting with the identification and tracking of construction constraints, risks and opportunities.

This placement will provide practical exposure to civil engineering, construction planning, project controls and infrastructure delivery, helping you understand how engineering designs are translated into safe, efficient and constructible works on site.

The experience will provide a strong foundation for a future career in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Planning, Project Controls, Infrastructure Delivery or related fields.

Work arrangements

• Start date: November 2026 as agreed
• Working arrangement: Fulltime or Part-time, totalling 200 hours
• Remuneration: $26.44 per hour plus superannuation on a fixed-term contract
• Location: in person; Site Office, Merotherie Road, Merotherie NSW 2852

Desired capabilities

We're looking for enthusiastic and motivated students who are keen to learn and develop practical industry experience:

• Currently studying Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Engineering or a related discipline
• Competency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook and Teams) with good general computer skills
• Fine knowledge about construction planning software: Microsoft Project, P6, etc
• Good organisational skills and attention to detail.
• A positive attitude and willingness to learn.
• Strong analytical, numerical and problem-solving skills.
• Good written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong teamwork and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with engineers, planners, supervisors, subcontractors and other project stakeholders.
• Good organisational skills and attention to detail.
• A positive, proactive attitude and willingness to learn in a fast-paced construction environment.
• A White Card, or willingness to obtain one before commencing.
• Be willing and able to work on site, with arrangements to reside locally or relocate for the duration of the placement.

Applicants must:

• Be in their penultimate or final year of study in a relevant qualification at Certificate IV, Diploma, Advanced Diploma, Bachelor, or Honours level, with a current credit-average or higher
• Be an Australian citizen or permanent resident currently residing in New South Wales and able to enter an employment contract
• Meet general selection criteria at the application stage, including communication skills, aptitude and attitude
• Not be an existing employee or intern (paid or unpaid) of the host organisation they are applying to
• Be willing to provide feedback on their placement experience
