As Australia’s national science agency, CSIRO is as committed today to supporting agricultural industries as it has been for the past 100 years.
This includes cropping, livestock, aquaculture and horticulture.
We continue to work with the meat and dairy industry to grow and support them and we recognise that animal-based protein sources will always play a vital role in human diets globally.
It is also our responsibility and requirement to identify opportunities which can be catalysed by science and technology, to support our traditional industries and grow new ones.
The opportunities identified by CSIRO in the food and agribusiness roadmap estimate this to be $25 billion by 2030.
Of this, the domestic and export opportunity for alternative proteins could reach $4.1B and $2.5B respectively by 2030.
