About the placement

iPastai are a food manufacturer specialising in fresh and frozen pasta products, convenience meals, and wholesale food service. The iPastai team are searching for a Food Science intern to support a shelf-life extension project in their fresh and frozen ready meals. Working under the direction of the Production Manager, the intern will:
- Participate in new ingredient trials
- Review recipe processes and equipment
- Undertake quality assessment of raw ingredients
- Participate in quality control trials, including providing laboratory support
- Support the development of documentation
This is a unique opportunity to undertake product improvement with a passionate team and translate food science principles to real-world outcomes.
Work arrangements
- Start date: May / June
- Working arrangement: Flexible for 200 hours on a casual contract
- Renumeration: $31.19 per hour plus super
- Location: 75 Callaway Street, Wangara WA, 6065
- Hours: Flexible within business hours of 8am to 5pm Monday to Friday
Desired capabilities
- Understanding of basic food chemistry and food technology
- Knowledge of quality control testing conducted in a food environment
- Passion for product formulation and continuous improvement
- Ability to work independently while collaborating with a team
- Understanding of basic food science laboratory skills and techniques
- Good communication skills and ability to author documentation
- Prior experience in a laboratory or food processing / manufacturing environment will be looked on favourably
Requirements
- Must be currently living in Western Australia
- Must be enrolled in a relevant Food Science or Technology university qualification (undergraduate or postgraduate)
- Must be able to organise own travel to and from work site location
