What is the purpose of this study?
The aim of this research study is to determine the impact determine the impact of the Brain & Body Protein powder on measures of sleep quality, cognition, brain function and mood sleep in older people.
Who can participate in this study?
For a full list of eligibility criteria please refer to the participant information sheet below. Criteria will be assessed during the participant screening process. The main criteria are:
- Aged 55 to 64 years (inclusive).
- Have a BMI between 18.5 and 35 (Inclusive. We can calculate this for you).
- Experiencing poor sleep quality.
- Is not allergic to milk, rice, soy or soy lecithin.
- Is willing to attend 2 visits in our clinic at SAHMRI over an 8-day period.
What is involved in participating in this study?
- People who register interest will complete a medical screening questionnaire, sent by CSIRO to a nominated email address.
- People may be invited to complete a phone screen where questionnaires about sleep quality and cognition are completed, and study criteria are checked.
- the CSIRO Nutrition and Health Research Clinic.
- Clinic visit 1, is approximately 5 hours in length.
- Clinic visit 2, is approximately 1 hour in length.
- During the clinic visits, activities include providing a blood sample, completing questionnaires, undergoing an electroencephalogram (EEG; first visit only), consuming a serving of the study product (first visit only), height, weight and vital signs measurements, among others. For a full list of activities completed at each clinic visit, please see the participant information sheet below.
- During the week, participants consume 1 dose of the study product each night, approximately 90mins before bedtime (except for the day of Visit 1, as they consume the study product in clinic that day).
- Each morning during the study, we ask participants to
- fill out a sleep diary
- check off their study product consumption
- record any changes to medication or health conditions.
Will there be remuneration for my time?
Participants who complete the study will receive a total of $200 to acknowledge their valuable contribution to scientific research.
