We collaborate with organisations in almost all fields of science – from food security to astrophysics. We link with Latin American organisations through researcher exchanges, collaboration agreements, technology transfer and more.
CSIRO Chile
Since 2013, we have been providing research services to mining companies, government agencies and universities in Chile through the CSIRO Chile Research Foundation. The Foundation has been the principal vehicle for collaboration between CSIRO and Chile, is seen as a model for deeper international collaboration in the future.
The Foundation originated in the Chilean government's International Center of Mining and Minerals Processing, in which CSIRO was selected as a partner in 2011.
The Centre helped address the big challenges facing both the Australian and Chilean mining industries including deeper mining; lower grade ores; increasing energy costs; demands for higher water efficiency; and human capital development.
The Centre facilitated opportunities for Chile and Australia to collaborate to create solutions for our current and future challenges and secure our minerals industries' long-term viability.
A new model for Latin America
From July 2023, we will change our operating model in Latin America. CSIRO Chile Research Foundation will no longer operate in Chile . However, we will maintain our presence in Latin America through a staff member based in the Australian Embassy in Chile.
We will continue to focus on cultivating deep international collaboration and building R&D capacity across priority sectors. Our Missions program will deliver opportunities for deep and impact-driven collaborations with businesses, researchers and governments from across Latin America.
