About the ATNF
Our Australia Telescope National Facility (ATNF) is one of the world's most advanced radio astronomy facilities, and the only one of its kind in the southern hemisphere.
ASKAP radio telescope
Our own ASKAP has 36 dish antennas, each 12m in diameter. ASKAP can scan the whole sky extremely rapidly due to its unique CSIRO-designed phased array feed receivers (radio cameras). It is well equipped to find and localise strange phenomena in our Universe like fast radio bursts or odd radio circles. ASKAP is a precursor to the SKA telescopes.
Parkes radio telescope, Murriyang
Parkes Observatory, just outside the central-west NSW town of Parkes, hosts our 64-metre Parkes radio telescope, Murriyang.
Australia Telescope Compact Array
Made up of six identical antennas, the Compact Array is used by astronomers to study the structure and evolution of our Universe.
Mopra radio telescope
Named after a nearby rock formation, Mopra radio telescope helps us to learn about the structure of galaxies and how stars form.
