Living things can be grouped on the basis of observable features and can be distinguished from non-living things (ACSSU044).

Science involves making predictions and describing patterns and relationships (ACSHE050).

Science knowledge helps people to understand the effect of their actions (ACSHE051).

Learning Objectives

Students will make predictions about which bird species they might observe during their birdwatching experience. Students will learn how to classify local bird species based on their observable features.

Student Learning Outcomes*

Students will:

  • Identify observable features of local bird species.
  • Use the Atlas of Living Australia to find out about bird species in their local environment.
  • Use multimedia to present collated bird species data.
Format

Birdwatching experience e.g. excursion to bird observatory (optional).

Assessment outcomes

Individual student presentation. 

Information and communications technology (ICT)

Computers/laptops/tablets with internet access.
