About the placement

Homestyle Salads are a family business manufacturing an expanding range of dry and wet salad products. To prepare for this rapid growth Homestyle Salads are looking for an intern to work with the Operations Manager and Food Safety & Quality Manager to:

  • Use software and hand-held equipment to develop a scale facility and equipment map
  • Identify bottlenecks and opportunities for improvement to process flow
  • Identify new technologies or processes which could improve manufacturing efficiency

This internship is an exciting opportunity for a student to take a deep dive into an operating fast-moving consumer good manufacturing facility, understand the impact of manufacturing growth, and apply their creative mindset to visualise the future.

Work arrangements

  • Start date: June
  • Working arrangement: Flexible for 200 hours on a casual contract
  • Renumeration: $31.19 per hour (plus super)
  • Location: 160 Henderson Road, Munster WA 6166
  • Hours: Flexible within the business hours of Monday to Friday, 8am to 6pm

Desired capabilities

  • Knowledge of CAD software to support the drawing of a scaled facility map
  • Ability to accurately use hand-held distance measuring devices
  • Understanding of manufacturing workflows
  • Ability to undertake desktop research
  • Ability to analyse data and think creatively
  • Ability to work independently but under direction from the operations manager
  • Understanding of food safety principles and temperature control will be looked on favourably

Requirements

  • Must be currently living in Western Australia
  • Must be enrolled in a relevant engineering Undergraduate or a Postgraduate University qualification (process engineering aligned preferred)
  • Must be able to organise own travel to and from site
