How will my privacy be protected?

Your personal information is protected by the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) (Privacy Act). CSIRO will handle your information in accordance with this Act and the National Health & Medical Research Council (NH&MRC) National Statement on Ethical Conduct in Human Research (2007, updated 2018), or as otherwise required by law.

Your personal information, including your name, mobile number, email, address and company details is being collected for the purposes of conducting the Innovate to Grow program.

CSIRO may also incidentally collect images of you, or recordings of your image and/or voice, which may be sensitive information, as part of the audio-visual recorded workshops to allow participants to watch-back workshop sessions. However, CSIRO will not use this information for any purpose outside of this.

CSIRO may disclose some of your personal information, including name, email and trading name, by virtue of your participation, to other participants in the cohort/webinars/mentor groups etc. for the purposes outlined above.

CSIRO does not intend to disclose your personal information overseas. However, some incidental overseas disclosure may occur in the conduct of an interview or in ordinary correspondence, particularly where some participants are located overseas, or where CSIRO engages third-party products or platforms to facilitate the program. For this program, CSIRO has partnered with Intersective Pty Ltd trading as ‘Practera’ (Practera) which is a global company with servers based in Australia and overseas. The program also uses the Zoom platform which is a global company with servers based in Australia and overseas. While CSIRO has taken steps to ensure your personal information is held in Australia, it cannot completely remove the risk that your personal information may be transferred to servers located outside Australia.

Practera will also continue to have access to your personal information after the end of the program for the following reasons:

  • To analyse program data for reporting purposes
  • To offer you access to STEM student project teams

Accordingly, by participating in the program, you consent to the transfer of your personal information to servers located outside of Australia and you acknowledge that this information may not be subject to the requirements of the Privacy Act. If you have any concerns about this, you should not participate in the program.

Results from the program, other than direct quotes provided by participants, will be de-identified and/or aggregated and published/presented or shared in a variety of forums and with third parties. This includes end of program reports which may be provided to IP Australia and sponsors of the program, such as partners that have sponsored a particular sector/cohort.

While CSIRO will make all attempts to ensure you cannot be reidentified from the information contained within the report, this risk can never be completely removed. It is possible that you may be able to be reidentified within the report due to cross-referencing other databases available to the public or by unique information known to an individual e.g. as a colleague or an individual with public knowledge of your organisation.

For further information on how CSIRO handles your personal information and our access, correction and complaints process please read our Privacy Policy available on our website or by contacting us at privacy@csiro.au.
